a protein injection

Hot damn, beef is good. I’ve been trying to lay off it lately, giving it a bit of a rest in favor of chicken and veggie-centric meal options. But when you get the belly itch for some good ole fashioned cow flesh, there’s not much you can do to resist.

So I was pretty excited when the itch arrived this weekend, because it gave me the perfect opportunity to try the key lime barbeque sauce I bought at a Peshastin fruit stand last month. It had been mocking me, unopened, from its perch in the cupboard ever since its purchase. I was intrigued because I don’t typically think ‘lime’ when I think BBQ sauce, but it was really tasty sauce. Tangy. I can’t wait to try it on chicken.

I bought a gridiron steak – what’s the deal with those, by the way, and why are they so much cheaper than flank steak all of a sudden? I marinated it in molasses, apple cider vinegar, and a touch of the sauce. Then we grilled it up on the Weber and served it on a bed of steamed kale from the garden and a quickie greek-style salad (ethnic profile only based on the presence of feta cheese). The steak and kale together in the same bite produced several mouthgasms from my end of the table, maybe partly because I was beef-deprived but mostly because it was just that good.

Lime has been surprising me lately with its versatility. Who knew the lil' thing had such a wide array of talents?

Anyway, steak is occasionally good for you. You need IRON, woman. That's why you're craving the hot beef.

Peter - yours will be far prettier than mine. I wanna see it.

Claudia - that's an abusive amount of butter.

Kristie - Lately I'm all about the lime and avocado. I should be living in your hood. 'Cept I never ever would.

Brittany - she totally said hot beef.
